First, let's get this out of the way, I am a centrist who voted for Obama and I don't regret it. Given that...What the Left forgets, and must remember before getting all cocky, is that Obama did not win because he was a spectacularly awesome candidate. He won because McCain/Palin was a spectacularly bad ticket that kept making mistakes. If a decent, acceptable Republican presidential ticket had emerged, I'm convinced Obama would have gotten stomped.Obama won because he successfully managed his image into being the "safe" candidate, but he had so much help from the Republicans that it would be funny if it wasn't so scary. If the Republicans had simply not made mistakes, they could have soooo easily maintained themselves as the "safe" choice against a dark young man of mixed race and brief political career. The Republicans should be ashamed of how incompetently they handed the Presidency to their opponent. To the extent that it was because of the distorting influence of the American Taliban right-wing extremists in the party, well then they know what they need to do.As for the Left, they need to understand that there are a whole lot of Republicans who don't make mistakes like McCain/Palin did, and a couple of them just won. The Left can't think that they are somehow naturally better today. Not when the Obama win was such a product of timing and circumstance.!
